2023 London Indaba
Why Africa is important for the future of mining and mining important for the future of Africa
Africa’s critical role in the minerals and metals of the future
26th & 27th June 2023
InterContinental Park Lane London
We are delighted to announce the launch of the Inaugural London Indaba on “investing in resources and mining in Africa”, taking place on 26 & 27 June 2023 at The InterContinental Park Lane London. Brought to you by the organisers of the renowned Joburg Indaba, the 2023 London Indaba will focus on Africa’s critical role in the minerals and metals of the future.
Africa is home to many of the world's essential minerals and metals including PGMs, gold, copper, cobalt, nickel, lithium, graphite, rare earths, vanadium, manganese, coal, to name but a few, and many African countries have these in abundance. African countries will continue to play a vitally important role in supplying the many important minerals and metals needed for our future society.
At the same time, the imperatives of decarbonization, transition to a green economy and goal of net zero have sparked a substantial spike in interest in mining from the international investment community in recent times, and geopolitical concerns and increasingly limited supply are encouraging many countries to diversify their supply chains and incentivise the extraction and processing of minerals and metals.
The 2023 London Indaba will focus on:
Why is Africa important to the future of mining and why is mining important to Africa?
How are the world’s governments incentivizing future metals and minerals and what are the implications for Africa?
Which commodities will be the winners and losers?
What is the outlook for supply and demand?
What is the future role of PGMs?
What will be the role for copper in future applications?
How will gold continue to be relevant in the future?
Is there a place for coal in meeting energy needs in the short term?
The little understood role of manganese – why is it critical now and in the future?
What are the drivers behind the latest developments in battery chemistries?
What is the role of vanadium in battery energy storage?
Over two days, The London Indaba will discuss Africa’s minerals and metals, their current and future supply and demand and interrogate the opportunities for African countries to provide a reliable, ethical and environmentally sustainable supply to both meet global demand and satisfy what investors are looking for when investing in African projects and mining companies:
Brought to you by the team behind the Joburg Indaba, the 2023 London Indaba will take its trademark bold, blunt yet constructive approach to tackling these issues, and we promise you a lively and engaging Indaba, full of promise for the myriad of opportunities available to mining companies, investors, governments and all stakeholders.
